Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries is getting closer to finishing its newest facility for women.
The new Serenity Women's Recovery Complex started construction early last year in April with plans to open up an expansion to women later in 2018.
The upgraded facilities will have class and meeting rooms for the women in the program, more beds and a welcoming feel for the women who may need to stay up to several months at the complex.
"The upgrades will increase safety and comfort and will especially allow for the training areas that will help women in their studies," Sue Renfro, KARM's director of marketing and communications, said.
The $1.3 million facility is still under construction at this time in East Knoxville. Almost 30 women in the recovery program now are living and learning in the temporary housing for the time being.
