KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville leaders gathered Friday afternoon to celebrate the opening of a new sports center and fieldhouse at Lakeshore Park, giving people new amenities to play baseball and enjoy nearby trails.
The new Jim Haslam Sports Center was developed with new baseball amenities including four new Little League ballfields and a new Challenger Field for children with disabilities. Crews also built the new Haslam Fieldhouse at Lakeshore Park — serving as a communal hub during gamedays and as a new event venue.
The fieldhouse will also give trail users a new restroom and a place to sit outside. It also offers new concessions, a covered picnic area, a covered bistro table, storage space and meeting rooms.
Lakeshore Park spans 185 acres and has around 3 miles of walking trails, as well as baseball fields, soccer fields, playgrounds, pavilions, piers and more. It is also often the site of special events throughout the year. A release from the park said it welcomes around 1 million visitors annually.
