KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A woman was convicted Thursday of fatally hitting a motorcyclist on I-40, near Asheville Highway, in June 2021. The District Attorney General said Jennifer Leigh Sexton, 50, was convicted of vehicular homicide, false reports, following too closely and driving on a suspended license.
In a release, the DA said Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the crash on June 15, 2021. There, the release said they learned Sexton was heading westbound at around 87 mph when she hit the motorcyclist as he drove in the right lane.
The release said the motorcyclist was thrown off the vehicle and onto the interstate, where he was hit and killed by another vehicle.
The release said when officers arrived, Sexton falsely told them someone else was driving her vehicle. She was taken to the hospital and arrested on a warrant for violating her probation.
After her conviction on Thursday, the DA said Judge Scott Green revoked her bond and ordered her into custody. Sentencing is set for June 20.
