Construction and demolition debris not being accepted at Jefferson Co. landfill, smaller trash still accepted

The county's landfill for construction debris and furniture reached its level recently. Businesses and contractors cannot bring their debris there as of Wednesday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Leaders in Jefferson County said a landfill for large items, such as debris from construction or furniture, reached its level and was not accepting large waste items as of Wednesday. The landfill for Class I household items is still open, and people can still bring their trash to it.

Businesses and contractors cannot bring their debris to the Class III/IV construction and demolition landfill until the county can increase its capacity. The process could take between four months and eight months to finalize.

In the meantime, the county said citizens can dispose of large waste in some small areas that have not yet reached capacity, as long as there is space available. However, the county said limits may be established to extend disposal ability.

It also said commercial entities can dispose of their waste at the Lakeway Sanitation Landfill, located at 5155 Enka Highway in Morristown. In a release, the county said it costs around $47 per ton to dump there.

Anyone with questions about the landfill can reach out to Jefferson County Sanitation at 865-397-3544.
