JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A colorful hot-air balloon festival is set to start in Jefferson County over the weekend. It's named the "Lakeside of the Smokies Balloonfest."
It lasts from 2 p.m. through 8 p.m. each day and includes more activities than just hot-air balloons. A free kid's fair with inflatable bounce houses, games, a petting zoo, balloon animals and obstacle courses will give children a chance to enjoy spending time outside and playing. Families will also be able to grab a meal from one of around 20 food trucks.
Live music will echo through the area and people will also be able to enjoy an antique tractor show. There will also be a wine garden for anyone who wants to taste East Tennessee's wines. Local breweries will also bring craft beers.
At night, people will be able to see a "balloon glow," when the interior of hot-air balloons is lit up, brightening up the night sky in a dazzling display of light. But during the day, they will be able to float up into the sky on balloons decorated in different colors.
Tethered balloon rides will be available at the festival, and untethered rides need to be purchased in advance. The festival is located at 295 W. Dumplin Valley Rd. in Dandridge.
