Active shooter drills planned for Monday and Tuesday at elementary school near Dandridge

The active shooter drill will start at around 9 a.m. each morning and will last until around 6 p.m. each day.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — People in Jefferson County may see plenty of sirens at Mt. Horeb Elementary School on Monday and Tuesday. However, leaders in the county said they should not worry.

An active shooter drill is planned at the elementary school for July 15 and July 16. The shooter drill will start at 9 a.m. each morning and end at around 6 p.m. each day. Law enforcement agencies, emergency services and state agencies are expected to participate in the drills alongside the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

People can expect a heavy police presence in the area around the school during the drills. They may also hear gunfire or explosions — all as part of the exercises meant to prepare crews on how to respond in case of emergencies.
