KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — People visiting Ijams Nature Center can park for free, but only for selected dates throughout the year.
As part of the nature center's new paid parking program, Ijams has chosen several days as Free Parking Days. Many of the days fall on holidays or days that are meaningful to nature centers and people who love the outdoors.
The selected dates are:
- Wednesday of Knox County School Break: March 13
- Spring Into Hope for Mental Health: Saturday, April 6
- National Trails Day: Saturday, June 1
- Wednesday of Knox County Fall Break: Oct 9
- Veteran's Day: Monday, Nov. 11
- Black Friday (Opt Outside Day): Friday, Nov. 29
The nature center started its parking program in February. They said it would help fund parking lot improvements and renovations around the center. Ijams members park for free and memberships begin a $10 per year.
