KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE: 10:33 a.m. on 1/17: The Knoxville Police Department has identified the driver of a box truck who died in a crash on I-75 at Callahan Road as Marlo Jackson, 50, of Fort Lauderdale Florida.
KPD Communications Manager Scott Erland said in a email to WBIR that Jackson was driving a Budget rental truck at the time and was traveling with a passenger. The passenger, identified as an adult man, was not injured.
Hazardous weather and road conditions are the primary contributing factor in the crash, Erland said.
UPDATE 9:47 p.m.: The Knoxville Police Department said Monday that the driver of a box truck died Monday at around 7 p.m. after rear-ending a tractor-trailer. KPD said the driver was heading north and slid on some of the snow, losing control and hitting the back of the tractor-trailer.
KPD said the driver was pinned in the vehicle after the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing. KPD also said hazardous conditions on Knoxville's roads were expected to persist into Tuesday.

The Knoxville Police Department said crews were responding to a serious crash Monday night on I-75 North near Callahan Drive, closing multiple lanes. An image of the crash shared by KPD showed a semi-truck parked perpendicular to the road, with several flashing lights surrounding it.
KPD said on social media that drivers should seek alternate routes if possible.
Earlier in the day, KPD also said people should avoid driving if at all possible. Across East Tennessee, authorities said roads were in hazardous conditions after a blanket of snow dropped on East Tennessee. It covered the area in several inches of snow, including Knoxville.
