How Knoxville churches will observe Ash Wednesday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville churches are providing special services for Ash Wednesday. 

The day begins Lent, a six-week period of observance. Here's where and when you can visit a Knoxville church for Ash Wednesday.

The Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

This Catholic church is offering services throughout the day. 

  • Noon mass, followed by a Lenten luncheon
  • 1:15 p.m. Adoration
  • 6:00 p.m. Adoration
  • 7:30 p.m. Adoration in Spanish

St. John's Cathedral

This Episcopal church is holding Ash Wednesday services, but it ashes will also be available at its Sunday morning services.

  • Noon service
  • 6:00 p.m. service

First Baptist Knoxville

This church hosts an evening service with the Imposition of Ashes at 6:00 p.m. in its sanctuary.
