TDOT: Highway 27 back open after stuck 'heavy equipment' blocks roads in both directions

The Wartburg Police Department said people traveling toward Scott County should take Montgomery Road to Highway 62, then take Rome Road before taking Deer Lodge Hwy.

WARTBURG, Tenn. — The Wartburg Police Department said Highway 27 was closed again Tuesday afternoon as "heavy equipment" traveling through Morgan County got stuck. By 10:45 p.m., the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the road was back open.

Highway 27 is a primary road running through Morgan County. Police originally said it would be "a while before anything moves."

On social media, the police department said travelers heading to Scott County could take Montgomery Road to Highway 62, and then use that highway to turn onto Rome Road. Drivers could use that road to turn onto Deer Lodge Highway, before traveling down that road and turning back onto Highway 27 — avoiding the stuck equipment.
