Group hosts haunted walking tours in historic Harriman, sharing spooky stories with visitors

The last Cornstalk Heights Hauntings of Historic Harriman was held on Oct. 19.

HARRIMAN, Tenn. — On Saturday night, groups had the last chance of the season to explore historic Harriman and learn about the spooky stories surrounding the community.

The walking tours were hosted by the Cornstalk Heights Historical Community Organization, which organizes the Hauntings of Historic Harriman tours annually. Participants were warned that since it was a walking tour, they should be prepared to venture up hills and brave some crisp temperatures.

"It's been going on for quite some time. Patrons are taken on a ghost story tour through the neighborhood. We also incorporate some of the historic buildings in our downtown area, here in Harriman. They are guided by a tour guide, which is typically someone who lives right here in the community," one organizer said.

The tales touch on the supernatural experiences some people reported feeling in Harriman. Some organizers said they felt like Harriman was a hotbed for paranormal activity.

"It's the limestone," one organizer said. "Brings out the spirits."

Tickets cost $10 for children up to 12 years old, and $20 for anyone at least 13 years old. They began at 7 p.m. and 25 people could go on a tour at a time. They began at the Harriman Carnegie Library.
