Knox County announces $2 million Hardin Valley Road widening project

The three-section road will expand into five lanes to double road capacity.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County announced a $2 million road widening project for Hardin Valley Road, set to begin next summer.

This road is one of the busiest intersections in Knox County, officials said.  It connects residents to the Pellissippi Parkway and the interstate.

“We all know the Hardin Valley area faces some serious challenges when it comes to congestion,” Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs said. “I’m really happy about this project because it’s a cost-effective way of greatly improving traffic flow in this area, which is good for the people of Hardin Valley and all of Knox County.”

According to the Knox County Engineering and Public Works Department director Jim Snowden, funding will go towards expanding the three-section road into five lanes to double road capacity. He said the project would take one to two years to complete.

Several Knox County Commissioners, like Larsen Jay, believe the project will work to improve the quality of life for Hardin Valley residents.

“This is exactly the type of project we should be spending Knox County taxpayer dollars on, and I appreciate the work the mayor, his administration and my Commission colleagues put into making it happen," Jay said, "Our economy thrives when local government works to support the free flow of goods, services, and, more importantly, people within our community.”
