KCSO: Hardin Valley Middle School student arrested for making verbal threat

The 12-year-old boy is a student at the school. He was charged with false reporting and threats of mass violence, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE (4/4): The Knox County Sheriff's Office said a 12-year-old was arrested for making a school threat at Hardin Valley Middle School on Tuesday, April 2.

The boy, who is a student at Hardin Valley Middle, was charged with false reporting and threats of mass violence. 

PREVIOUS: 

The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating a verbal threat at Hardin Valley Middle School. The school was evacuated Tuesday afternoon as a precaution for a potential threat, according to KCS Spokesperson Carly Harrington. 

After sweeping the school, the KCSO Bomb Unit did not find anything threatening. However, out of caution, they will do a second search, according to KCSO. 

No charges have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing. 

KCSO Bomb Unit and the Explosive Detection assisted Juvenile Detectives in the search.
