Accused White Pine shooter not in custody following killing, JCSO says

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 45-year-old Joshua Barnes.

WHITE PINE, Tenn. — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the man accused of killing another man in White Pine is not in custody. 

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the sheriff's office identified the victim as Joshua Barnes, 45. The accused shooter, Jason Scalf, 37, was located on the scene and detained. Officials said Scalf is not in custody. It's unclear if he's facing any charges. 

According to JCSO, deputies were dispatched to an address on Beth Carr Road around 1:36 p.m. Saturday in response to a shooting. When they arrived, deputies located Barnes who was pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Services.

JCSO said the investigation is still active.
