Autopsy results released for judge who was killed while walking on side of Jefferson Co. highway

According to the report, Slone had a blood alcohol content of 0.256, more than three times the legal limit to drive.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tennessee — The Regional Forensic Center in Knoxville released the autopsy report for Fourth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge O. Duane Slone, who was killed after he was hit by a vehicle in Dandridge in late August.

The report ruled Slone's death as "multiple blunt trauma." His manner of death was deemed an accident.

The report also found that Slone had an "acute alcohol intoxication as well as low level of amphetamine." It said he had a blood alcohol content of 0.256, more than three times the legal limit to drive.

He also had 26 ml of amphetamine in his system, the report states.

According to officials, the judge had a flat tire and was walking along Highway 25/70 between Hammer and Spring Creek Roads when a passing vehicle hit him at around 1:05 a.m. A crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Slone was hit by a 2010 Ford Fusion.

Before Slone was hit, two bystanders saw him "staggering all over" the eastbound lane while walking down the highway. When they turned around to check on him, they saw a vehicle stopped on the road.

THP said Slone's vehicle was later found parked along the road near the scene with a flat tire and minor damage. They also reported the inside of the car had a strong smell of alcohol.

The road conditions that night were noted as "extremely dark." Due to this, the driver of the Ford said she had not seen Slone before striking him, according to THP.

No criminal charges were pending for the driver.
