GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Greene County Sheriff's Department said it recently arrested two people in two separate internet crimes against children cases.
Anthony Roe, a 24-year-old, was arrested on Oct. 21, following a Greene County Grand Jury indictment for 28 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He is being held for an $80,000 bond and has a criminal court date set for Nov. 30, according to the GCSD.
Paul Winslow Mauney, a 56-year-old, turned himself in on Nov. 13 following a Greene County Grand Jury indictment for eight counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Mauney was released on a $50,000 bond and his criminal court date is set for Jan. 12, 2024, GCSD said.
Mauney is the publisher of The Greeneville Sun newspaper. Adams Publishing Group, the parent company of The Greeneville Sun, released a statement regarding the indictment:
"APG takes these allegations very seriously, and we also have the utmost respect for the judicial system. Our news organization will handle this story as we would any charges of this nature involving a community leader. Mauney is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation."
Both investigations began after tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) concerning the upload of child sex abuse material. The investigations led to search warrants being executed at each suspect’s house, according to GCSD.
The Greene County Sheriff's Department said nothing in these investigations led detectives to believe there were any local child victims or any additional concerns for the public.
