Local artist Curtis Glover will paint the mural. Based in Knoxville, he is known for his large-scale, highly detailed work covering many walls in and around the city, according to UT. He said it takes three to five days to create the mural and he has painted about 10.

"It's a good visual to see kind of ties the whole state together so obviously UT Knoxville being the main university in the state gives you that reminder that across west to east it's all connected," Glover said.

UT's goal with the project is to paint a mural in each of the state's 95 counties.

The mural in Jefferson will be visible to more than 2,000 daily travelers.
