HALLS CROSSROADS, Tenn. — Rural Metro said Wednesday morning that crews had fully contained a "large brush fire" overnight in the Halls Crossroads area.
In a post on social media on Tuesday, Rural Metro said the fire was reported off Mynatt Road near a cell phone tower. It also said that no structures were threatened as of around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. In a release, Rural Metro said it was around three acres large and was located on Mynatt Road, near Maynardville Highway.
The fire was started by a person found in a tree stand in the middle of the fire, Rural Metro said. That person was found and taken out of the fire before he was taken to the emergency room. A spokesperson for Rural Metro said charges are expected to be brought against the person, but not for arson because the fire was started on private property.
The Tennessee Division of Forestry was digging a fire line around the fire, helped by Rural Metro crews.
"This is a slow-moving fire fueled by a large amount of dead undergrowth and a slight breeze," the release said.
Crews are expected to stay on the scene until they are certain there is no threat of the fire spreading.
