KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On Halloween, 12 couples are getting married at the Knox County Courthouse. On a normal day, only one or two couples get hitched at the courthouse.
According to Knox County officials, they officiate the most weddings on Halloween compared to any day of the year. It's become so busy that couples can only get married on Oct. 31 with an appointment.
Larsen Jay is a Knox County commissioner and officiated some of those weddings on Tuesday. He said some folks love the holiday, but he's heard from several grooms who say it's an easy date to remember.
The second most popular day to get married at the courthouse is Valentine's Day, followed by dates that are also easy to remember, like March 3 (3/3/23) or Feb. 22 (2/2/23).
The courthouse also said Friday the 13th is also rising in popularity.
