KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said Thursday that far fewer guns have been stolen from cars in the city compared to the same time last year.
As of March 11, KPD said 23 guns were reported stolen from cars. The police department said that number represents a 50% reduction compared to the same time last year, in 2023.
"That is encouraging, but 23 stolen firearms is still too many," KPD said on social media.
The police department said to prevent gun thefts from cars, people should make sure they either remove or safely secure valuables when leaving their cars — especially guns. People should also make sure to lock their cars and park in visible, well-lit areas if possible.
If a gun is stolen, gun owners should immediately report it to authorities and provide information about the weapon, such as its serial number.
