GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Gatlinburg said Thursday crews finished a project to restore Bruce Branam Field — a spot for child baseball and softball teams to gather and play.

In a release, the city said crews installed a new AstroTurf field and new lighting, revitalizing the area so it could better serve teams of children between 4 years old and middle school age. It also said asphalt paths that were removed for the field's construction were replaced with concrete paths around it, and more concrete paths were added for improved access to LeConte Creek.

Bruce Branam Field was originally built when Mynatt Park opened in 1974 but was temporarily removed as part of a large renovation project in 2021. The city said it got community feedback urging leaders to restore the field.

“The City is honored to unveil the beautifully restored baseball and softball field at Mynatt Park, which is a facility that holds cherished memories for many,” said Greg Patterson in the release, the Gatlinburg City Manager. “This field embodies a place where the dreams of Gatlinburg’s youth can flourish.”

The release said funding for the project was included in the 2023-2024 fiscal year budget and construction started last fall, finishing in April.
