We're learning more about why the Helen Ross McNabb Center decided to close its runaway shelter in Knoxville.
Last week, the group released a statement saying it was closing because of funding issues.
Friday, the group's CEO said with a funding cut, the shelter didn't meet the quality standards they feel the community needs. Helen Ross McNabb is looking into alternatives to a 24-hour staffed shelter.
The center's CEO says the decision has been hard on everyone.
"It's always a difficult decision when you have to decide to close a service that has been meaningful to the community for some time. It's difficult on the organization and it's difficult for our staff who are very passionate about caring for runaway youth," said Jerry Vagnier.
The group will still offer services like community outreach and counseling for kids in crisis.
Vagnier says if there is enough money, they may reopen the shelter in the future.
