KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The new French Broad Veterans Memorial Park in East Knox County is another step closer to completion with the conclusion of site grading.
Construction is expected to follow soon. Knox County conducted the grading, according to the Legacy Parks Foundation. which is overseeing the project.
The 13 acres, donated by Blue Water Industries, overlook the French Broad River and East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Plans call for walking trails, a pavilion and parking. It's designed as a tribute to military veterans and their families.
Specific features include:
- An overlook with a panoramic view of the cemetery and the French Broad River
- A one-eighth-mile ADA memorial walk with service memorial locations
- A reflective garden for more private or smaller gathering
- A natural surface nature trail extending from the overlook and looping through the woods
- A memorial wall to honor individual veterans
The project is expected to be finished this fall.
While the land is secured, money still is needed for construction. So far more than $53,000 has been raised.
