Knoxville, TN — In August, the Knoxville Martial Arts Academy began offering classes specifically for the deaf community.
Instructors use sign language to help kids learn kickboxing, Brazilian jujitsu, Wrestling and MMA while boosting their self-esteem.
Chase Waender and his wife Jessie are both proficient in American Sign language and teach the classes.
There's a children's class from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, followed by an adult Jiu-Jitsu class at 6:16 p.m.
Joey Zonar says the ASL classes are something they've wanted to offer for a while and are glad to be able to do so.
