Mascot baseball is the perfect cure for the Monday blues

Mascots from all around East Tennessee faced off at Smokies Stadium for the annual 'WBIR Live at 5 at 4 Mascot Baseball Challenge.'

Kodak, TN — For the 23rd year in a row, or maybe the 94th year in a row (we lost count), mascots from near and far gathered at Smokies Stadium to face off in the annual Live at Five at Four Mascot Baseball Challenge.

Keeping with tradition, WBIR's Chief Meteorologist Todd Howell and anchor Russell Biven called the game that ended after one inning (more or less).

The hot, sunny weather was ideal for sprinting around a baseball field in a thick, fur mascot suit.

The teams, Foxy's Fanatics and Rupp's Rounders, were neck and neck til the very end.

After a controversial decision, Howell and Biven declared Foxy's Fanatics the winners after nicknaming them as "Sprinkles' team" for reasons that we will not mention.

The Mascot Baseball Challenge airs Monday at 4 pm.
