GATLINBURG, Tenn. — With a scrunchie tied in her hair, a fanny pack around his waist and matching denim shorts, Brandon Cassady and Melissa Stansberry knew they had found the best way to announce their engagement.
"We're not the traditional type. We thought it'd be easier to be awkward, go to the thrift shop and buy some denim, fanny packs and just be ourselves," Stansberry said.
Gatlinburg made the perfect backdrop for their "Masterminds"-inspired engagement photo shoot where the two posed awkwardly in a trailer park, on a playground, and in front of the Salt and Pepper Museum for a local twist.
"He plays Zach Galifianakis' character perfectly," Stansberry laughed.

The couple plans to mail the photos to their friends and family. What they didn't plan on is how many other people would get a kick out of their nontraditional photos.
More than 500 people have shared the post on their photographer's Facebook page, Linda Stansberry Photography.
"I think all the girlfriends were tagging their boyfriends saying, 'let's do this,'" Cassady said.
