DANDRIDGE, Tenn. — Two firefighters are OK after their command truck crashed into the Jefferson County Finance Building while towing a fire boat on Wednesday morning.

According to Dandridge Police Chief Carson Williams, the firefighter driving the truck had a medical incident when the two were driving back from Douglas Lake after doing a weekly check on a fire boat around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday. The lieutenant in the passenger seat grabbed the wheel and tried to steer the truck, but it went off the road and hit the finance building.

Williams said neither of the firefighters had serious injuries. The firefighter driving the truck was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital to be evaluated for the medical incident, and the lieutenant didn't need treatment. Police said no one else was hurt.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. It said the firefighter was driving north on Highway 92 when it left the road on the right side and hit two parked cars. It also said that the firefighter who was driving was injured, but the passenger was not.

According to Williams, the truck was a total loss. The damages to the boat and building are being evaluated.
