FENTRESS COUNTY, Tenn. — The Fentress County Sheriff's Office said a former sheriff who served for around eight years died recently. On social media, the sheriff's office said it sent its condolences to the family of Ray Atkinson, who served from 1998 to 2006. An obituary for Atkinson said he was 78 years old.
"We appreciate his years of service to our community. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers," the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office said his funeral would be held on Sept. 21 at 12 p.m. His family would receive friends on Sept. 20, from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. at the Mundy Funeral Home's south chapel.
