ETSU's marching band will perform in New York City during annual Thanksgiving Day parade

ETSU said the band would be the first collegiate marching band from Tennessee to perform in the parade in more than 60 years.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — East Tennessee may notice some familiar faces during the annual Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City this year. For the first time in around 60 years, a collegiate marching band from the area will perform during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Marching Bucs hail from East Tennessee State University, with more than 360 performers. It's led by Joe Moore, who revived the marching band program in 2014, according to a release from ETSU.

The band is expected to arrive in the city on Tuesday with time to explore Times Square and attend a Broadway performance. The night before Thanksgiving, the band will also tour other landmarks in Manhattan like the Empire State Building before getting dinner as a group.

On Thanksgiving morning, the Marching Bucs will step off from Central Park West and perform for millions of viewers across the world. The parade will air on NBC, and will also be available to stream on Peacock.
