A local speller is competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Jared Mueller is a 6th grader from Cedar Bluff Middle School.
He is number 329 out of 516 spellers in this year's competition.
The preliminary rounds were Tuesday and continued Wednesday. Mueller spelled the word 'oprichnik' correctly Tuesday. He spelled 'iniquitous' Wednesday but after the bee made cuts based on the writing portion, he was let go.
The 41 finalists will compete Thursday.
