East TN Valley Crime Stoppers urges community to stay alert over New Year's holiday

The East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers will still collect tips on open investigations throughout New Year's.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers is urging people to stay alert over the New Year's holiday, as investigators continue searching for suspects in a variety of crimes.

For example, authorities are still searching for Shawn Henry Burger, 35, a man accused of dragging a Jefferson City Police Department officer after driving away during a traffic stop. JCPD said he was pulled over after officers investigated a shoplifting complaint at a Walmart on Dec. 22.

Burger refused to leave the car, and "a JCPD officer attempted to remove him from the vehicle" when he drove away, and JCPD said the officer was dragged several feet. The officer had minor bumps and bruises.

Investigators are also searching for Kemian Strawder, a suspect connected to a postal service carjacking on Dec. 6 in Knoxville. He was a juvenile at the time of the crime and is being charged on juvenile petitions. Police are still trying to find him and identify a second suspect believed to be involved.

"With Crime Stoppers, we're very fortunate. People can give us the information and remain 100% anonymous. We never want to know who they are" said Stacey Payne, who works with ETVCS.

Anyone with information about an open investigation can reach out to the Crime Stoppers group either online, or by calling them at 865-215-7165.
