Norwood Middle wins first place at annual 'Dream It Do It' competition

Students teamed up with local advanced manufacturing businesses to produce videos that showcased their creativity and hard work.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — It was a special day as the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the talent and creativity of local middle school students at the "Dream It. Do It." East Tennessee awards ceremony.

ACCC and Consolidated Nuclear Security partnered with Anderson County Schools to give students get a first-hand look at different manufacturing fields. The students teamed up with local advanced manufacturing businesses to produce videos that showcased their creativity.

The program is aimed to create awareness in 8th graders about the industry.

"They come in and work with that company representative and they say you can do this at one point in your life," Rick Meredith, president and CEO of Anderson County Chamber of Commerce, said. "It gets them so excited to know how much money they can earn, what they can learn if they need to go to TCAT school or a 4-year university and they learn all of that as an 8th grader."

Norwood Middle won first place, receiving a $1,000 STEM check. Jefferson Middle won second place, and Norris Middle won third. 

"Congratulations to all the students, schools, and local businesses involved," ACCC said in a post. "Here’s to fostering creativity, innovation, and collaboration in East Tennessee!"
