UT students tried to set a new world record Friday for building the world's largest box fort.
Students worked through the day to turn 5,000 cardboard boxes into a giant Power T. That would beat the current world record of 4,123 boxes.
It's part of UT's participation in Recyclemania, a national competition designed to encourage recycling on college campuses.
Organizers say Friday's wind made the construction challenging... but they hope the box fort will help students realize the importance of recycling.
"We wanted to show a little bit of what we do on campus as far as collecting cardboard. This 5,000 boxes is about four days worth of cardboard on campus," said Jay Price, UT recycling manager.
Several student groups hosted efforts to build sections of the fort, including UT's Economics Club.
They used the boxes as a visual demonstration of the nation's debt, as part of an entry into "Up to Us", a nationwide federal debt awareness competition.
