Wind damages Neyland Stadium jumbotron

Update:

UT says it is shopping for bids to repair the jumbotron at Neyland Stadium.

Strong winds Wednesday tore off a couple panels on the side of the video board. The university says it is still assessing the damage and working with contractors for repair work.

Crews had to close down the parking lot below the jumbotron, in case anything else from the score board.

Previous story: Wednesday, March 12

Wednesday's high winds are blowing down some trees and power lines across East Tennessee, and something more on the UT campus.

Pieces from the side of the Neyland Stadium jumbotron tumbled to the ground this afternoon. Crews worked quickly to move people and cars parked below out of the way.

What fell was long, metal strips, around 20 feet long and a couple of feet wide, and some insulation.

Officers have closed the parking lot below the jumbotron, and are keeping people out of the area, in case anything else falls.

There's no word yet on exactly how much damage was done. No injuries were reported.
