(WBIR-KNOXVILLE) Crews broke ground Thursday on what will eventually be a new science building on the University of Tennessee's Knoxville campus.
The Mossman building will be located on the corner of Cumberland Avenue and 13th street.
University officials says it adds more to students' educational experience than just needed classrooms and laboratory space.
"What this will give us is the opportunity to have state-of-the-art facilities in the life sciences for students that come here, also faculty. It helps us attract new students, it also helps us attract great faculty," said Jimmy Cheek, UT Chancellor.
The six-floor building is scheduled to be open for fall semester 2018.
The facility is named for the late Ken and Blaire Mossman, who met when they were students in 1968 and stayed connected to UT throughout their lives.
