UTK: New housing project approved by board, structures set to finish by fall 2025

Over 1,900 beds will be available in the fall of 2025, according to the university.

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — The University of Tennessee's Board of Trustees approved plans to work with a private contractor to build two new dorm structures, set to be finished for incoming freshmen in 2025.

The plan's first phase includes two units. One will finish up a quad unit near Andy Holt Avenue and will hold 750 beds. The other, in between Caledonia and Terrace, will be a two-building housing complex with two structures with a total of 1,150 beds.

UT said this will add 1,900 beds to the already 8,300 that's on campus.

During the board of trustee's meeting, David Miller, the board's chief financial officer, said there are plans in the future to tear down existing buildings that are old and difficult to maintain.

Reports show some of the new buildings will be built on existing parking lots eliminating 310 existing parking places.

Phase two of the plan could see its beginnings in 2026, which will include a new dorm on Lake Loudon with 1,000 more beds.

The agenda for the meeting discussing housing plans can be found here.
