KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville leaders said Wednesday that by the end of 2023, all the steel framing for a new downtown stadium had been installed and in place. They also said around two-thirds of the concrete for the stadium had been poured.
The framing totals around 1,200 tons of steel, according to a release from Knoxville. By Wednesday, it also said around 4,700 cubic yards of concrete had been poured. According to a release from the city, dirt was also in the process of being moved near the southern side of the stadium.
That dirt was being moved before crews worked to install the foundation for a bridge spanning First Creek.
"This will be part of the concourse," said Barry Brooke in the release, the Sports Authority's construction representative. "You'll be able to watch the game from the concourse and be up above the field. This will be very special and unique."
Crews previously finished installing the stadium's 48-inch sanitary sewer line and a 36-inch water line. Construction is also underway on the nearby luxury apartment buildings, being built on the third-base side of the stadium.
The stadium is expected to open by spring 2025, according to a previous release from city leaders.
