Holidays on Ice, downtown Knoxville's ice skating tradition, returning to Market Square on Nov. 29

Starting Nov. 29 and through the holiday season, people will be able to ice skate in the heart of downtown Knoxville.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Every year during the holiday season in downtown Knoxville, crowds flock to Market Square for a chance to slip, slide and show off their skills at ice skating.

Starting on Nov. 29, the Holidays on Ice tradition will return to Market Square. As part of the tradition, crews put together an ice skating rink in the center of the square in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. The day after the holiday, the rink opens.

It will stay open until Jan. 5, 2025, and will feature a weekly, themed schedule. On Mondays, people who have an Ice Bears ticket stub will get $2 off the price of admission. On Tuesdays, skaters will be able to enjoy skating to holiday tunes and classic hits from different decades.

On Wednesdays, the DJ will play a lineup of different popular artists. A list of the artists and the days they will be played is available below.

  • December 4: Enjoy DJ Music of Morgan Wallen and other favorite country tunes 
  • December 11: Enjoy DJ Music of Taylor Swift
  • December 18: Enjoy DJ music of ABBA
  • January 1: Enjoy DJ music of Jackson's

On Thursdays, people will get $2 off admission with their college ID. On Fridays and Saturdays, the city will host a skate party at the ice skating rink with disco lights and music. Sundays will not have a specific theme, and skaters are instead encouraged to enjoy brunch at nearby restaurants before going skating.

Holidays on Ice's regular hours will run through Dec. 22 and are available below.

  • Monday through Thursday: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday: 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

From Dec. 23 to Jan. 5, it will open at 1 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, before special holiday hours take effect on Christmas and New Year's.

It will cost $12 to enter and rent a fee, or $9 for children under 12 years old. Season passes are also available for $50.
