KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The structure for condos at the Beauford Delaney Building, located at Knoxville's new downtown stadium, has been built. Crews are still building the interior of the condos though, and leaders said they are expected to start welcoming residents by the summer.
Clint Waddell, who works with Partners Development and is helping construct the building, said the units are expected to range from $600,000 to more than $2 million. The building will have nine floors and there will be 47 condos up for sale.
"The biggest draw is going to be the ballfield, of course," he said. "For Knoxville to have this is a big step for downtown, for sure."
The building was named after Beauford Delaney, an artist from Knoxville whose work helped shape the mid-20th century modernist movement. His work featured scenes of New York, jazz clubs and prominent African-American figures, and he has been referred to as one of the most important Black artists of his era.
The first floor of the building will have retail space and some condos available. The second floor will have offices and house Boyd Sports. The third floor through the ninth floor will be residential space.
Waddell said the building is designed to have unrivaled views for the people who live there.
"If you think about it, it's almost like a creation of a brand-new district within the downtown area itself," said Waddell. "On the fourth floor, the main view of the field. As you go up, you'll get bigger viewed out to the east where you can see House Mountain and the skyline of downtown Knoxville."
Ten condos have already been listed on Zillow, an online real estate listing service, with the highest price point reaching around $2.29 million for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom listing with just over 2,000 square feet.
