Discounts, lessons at Splash Country's Water Safety Day

Swimming is a great way to stay cool this summer, but it is also dangerous especially for your young ones. One-in-five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger, according to the CDC. Water Safety Day at Dollywood's Splash Country will feature a 30-minute swim lesson to help swimmers get comfortable in the water.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Dollywood's Splash Country will offer swimming lessons and discounted ticket prices to raise awareness about being safe in the sun on Thursday, June 21 during their annual Water Safety Day.

A 30-minute swim lesson will kick off the event. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the lesson will start at 10 a.m. at Mountain Waves wave pool. The lesson will be taught by Olympic gold medalist Jenna Johnson and swim coach Jackie Bertucci.

There will also be vendor booths were guests can learn about being safe in the water and sun from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who visit the booths will receive a "Splash Pass" that allows them to claim prizes. If guests visit all of the vendors, they can turn in their pass for a chance to win two Splash Country season passes.

Admission to the park is required to participate in Water Safety Day. On June 21, a special $30 ticket is available. Tickets can be purchased at the park or online at Dollywood.com.

Dollywood's Splash Country will also be participating in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for world's largest swimming lesson on June 21. Last year, 41,000 people participated- falling short of their 42,000 person goal.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, about one-in-five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger.
