THP: 17-year-old driving a dirt bike dead after crash with car in Hamblen County

THP said the 17-year-old ran a stop sign and drove into the path of the car before being fatally hit.

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a 17-year-old driving a dirt bike died in Hamblen County on Monday after crashing into a car near the intersection of Three Springs Road and North 3rd Street, in Russellville.

The THP said in its preliminary report that the car was driving south on Three Springs Road when the 17-year-old ran a stop sign from North 3rd Street and onto Three Springs Road, headed into the car's path.

The THP said the teen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was taken to a local hospital. It said the teen was pronounced dead there.

The preliminary report said the driver of the car was not facing charges as of Monday night.
