Deer hunting season across the state closed Sunday at sundown and the final harvest topped 160,000.

With data still being collected the harvest is currently at 162,058, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

There will be a Young Sportsman Hunt for ages 6-16 next Saturday and Sunday, and the deer killed then will be included in the 2014-15 harvest.

The final harvest total won't be made official until several weeks after the Young Sportsman Hunt.

Gun, muzzleloader and archery season has been open since Nov. 22. The first season, which was archery only, opened on Sept. 27.

The 2013-14 harvest was 168,507 and the 2012-13 harvest was 176,600.

TWRA wildlife chief Daryl Ratajczak said in December that he expected this season's harvest to be close to what it was in each of the last two years.

Counties with the largest harvests this season: Giles 5,146, Fayette 4,687, Henry 4,364, Lincoln 4,184, Hardeman 4,116, Maury 3,910, Montgomery 3,499, Franklin 3,252, Carroll 3,214, Weakley 3,118.
