44-year-old driver killed after CSX train crashes into car, CSX reports

According to CSX, the train crashed into the car at the Evans Street and Old Slag Road crossing in Vonore.

VONORE, Tenn. — Update 9/22 at 10:32 a.m.

The victim of the fatal crash has been identified as 44-year-old Bridgett Pearson from Tennessee, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. 

No injuries have been reported for the 43-year-old driver of the CSX train, GK Hicks, or the 55-year-old passenger Bonner Hardestie, THP says. 

According to THP, Pearson was traveling east on Evans Street in their 2015 Infiniti QX6 when they failed to stop for the railroad crossbars. The car continued through the crossing and struck the CSX train which was travelling north on the tracks. 

The car slid down the gravel and dirt before coming to an uncontrolled stop off the roadway, THP says. The train was able to come to a controlled stop on the tracks. 

No charges have been announced at this time.

One person is dead after a CSX train crashed into them Friday morning, according to a spokesperson with CSX Transportation.

At around 7:56 a.m., the train crashed into a vehicle at the Evans Street and Old Slag Road crossing in Vonore. 

Monroe County officials responded to the scene and reported that the driver of the car was killed, CSX said.

No injuries were reported for the train crew.

Officials have not released the driver's identity.

"CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident, and we will work to support local law enforcement as they investigate," CSX said.
