GCSO: Fire spread to around 10 boats, dock and dock store on Cherokee Lake Tuesday night

The fire broke out near the Gilmore Dock Tuesday evening at around 7 p.m., according to witnesses and dispatchers.

RUTLEDGE, Tenn. — Crews responded after a fire broke out at a Rutledge dock Tuesday evening. The fire started near the Gilmore Docks at around 7 p.m. according to dispatchers and witnesses.

Officials said the Rutledge Fire Department, Bean Station Fire Department, Blaine Fire Department, and Grainger County EMA all responded to the fire. Authorities said the boat dock and fire were fully engulfed in the fire when police hen they arrived.

According to a police report, the owner of the boat dock was told about the fire when he arrived. He said it was coming from inside the dock store area.

Appalachian Electric, TVA, and TWRA were all notified about the fire as crews extinguished the fire. The fire spread to around 10 boats, along with the dock and the dock store, according to authorities.

Officials estimated that less than 100 gallons of fuel leaked into Cherokee Lake as a result of the fire.

Officials said they expected crews to continue working throughout the night to extinguish the fire and make sure the dock is safe.
