ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — Crews said an overnight blaze on Rockwood Mountain is contained as of Monday morning.
The West Roane County Volunteer Fire Department said it fought the fire, which burned a section of the mountain south of Hwy 70.
The WRCVFD said on Facebook near 1 a.m. that it cut fire lines (gaps in vegetation to prevent fire from spreading) and conducted fire-fighting operations. The department remained on the scene for the rest of the night to protect structures on the mountain.
Crews said it was still unsafe to approach the section of Rockwood Mountain, especially due to the area's narrow back roads.
