NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Ten officers have been reassigned at the Metro Nashville Police Department following the investigation into the leak of the Covenant School shooter’s writings.
The police department said the ten people were reassigned from the Threat Section of the Specialized Investigations Division and will transition out of the division over the next month.
“We acknowledge that these individuals were questioned as part of the leak investigation, which DID NOT identify any current MNPD employees, or employees of any partner agency, as engaging in the unauthorized release of the 3 photographs taken at the Covenant scene on March 27, 2023,” MNPD said.
The police department said in early December that it did not know who leaked the images and after several interviews with employees and partner agencies, MNPD said it could not determine the source of the leak.
Police said it also tried to interview a former MNPD detective who had images of the writings while on the force, but that former detective declined an interview and police said he is no longer a member of law enforcement. MNPD can't compel individuals to give statements or compel former employees to cooperate with investigations.
