Big upgrades are in store for the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum as the Knoxville City Council agreed to move forward forward on renovation plans that could cost up to $10 million.
Issues facing the arena include replacing the ice floor system, replacing lights and repainting the ceiling.
"It's a complicated project, so they'll get all the design professionals, the mechanical, gas, electric, architecture, engineering, figure out how to get that team together to actually get this work designed and then built," David Brace, chief operating officer for the city.
Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero is expected to discuss how the renovations will be paid for during her State of the City address later this month.
The council also voted to spend about a quarter million dollars to design an extension of the First Creek Greenway.
It will link it to shopping areas along Broadway and increase walkability from North Knoxville to downtown.
