Rural Metro crews put out 1.5-acre wildland fire in Knox County

According to a release from Rural Metro, crews found the fire near 7600 Longmire Rd.

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — Rural Metro said Monday that crews put out a wildland fire that was burning near Corryton, in Luttrell.

According to a post on social media, the fire grew to around 1.5 acres by the time crews received reports about large amounts of smoke in the area and responded. Rural Metro said it was near 7600 Longmire Rd.

The post said winds were making it harder for crews to contain the fire, and Rural Metro asked people to avoid the area.

By 3:40 p.m. Jeff Bagwell, a spokesperson for Rural Metro, said the fire had been contained. He also said information about its cause was not immediately available.

Rural Metro said anyone in Knox County needs a burn permit before setting anything on fire outside.

"It is too dry to be burning outside, so please just don't," Rural Metro said.

This afternoon at approximately 130pm, Rural Metro Fire responded to a complaint of a large amount of smoke in the area...
