Construction continues on UT's campus for multiple new residence halls

The housing projects will add nearly 2,000 beds to campus, which is around 25% of the 8,500 currently on campus.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Changes are coming to the University of Tennessee's campus with multiple construction projects underway as of Monday.

The housing projects will add nearly 2,000 beds to campus, which is around 25% of the 8,500 currently on campus. The projects are meant to help UT keep up with the demand for on-campus housing and an increased student population.

"They are a key component of the university’s strategic plan for enrollment growth and will help meet the needs of students who are seeking to stay on campus longer," the university said.

The new residence halls are expected to be open in the fall of 2024. The university also announced a third residential hall planned for 2026.

"Phase 2 of the initial public-private partnership will consist of a third residential community at the intersection of Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Volunteer Boulevard, which will add another 1,028 beds," the university said. "The project has been approved by the UT Board of Trustees and is pending state approvals. This third community is expected to open for fall 2026."
