Green McAdoo Cultural Center; their walk commemorated in life-sized statues. Now the Clinton 12 are receiving national recognition. This month they, along with Green McAdoo, accepted the National Education Association's "Rosa Parks Memorial Award.""The Clinton story had mainly been a Clinton story. With the National Education Association, there is room to believe it will be more of a national story," said Marilyn Hayden, Administrator at Green McAdoo. The award comes from teachers; the people Boyce says made their integration possible"It was the teachers who were the strongest on our side; best pals, best buddies, tried to help us through the whole process in 1956," she said. It's a process that continues today."That's our mission statement, to tell people our story and educate students and anybody who wants to know the story of the role of the Clinton 12 students," Hayden said."I hope it opens the eyes of children, in particular. I see kids not really knowing much about their history, and 50 years is not really that long ago," Boyce said. The Clinton 12 were nominated for the award by the Anderson County Chapter of the Tennessee Education Association. The process took about a year and a half to complete. />
